Product Description 1955-1962 Chevrolet 235 6 Cylinder Starter w/168 Teeth Flywheels - 3599GR
Fits Chevrolet with 168 teeth flywheels only.
Most all Chevy Cars and Trucks built 1955-1956 and latter used 168 teeth flywheels. To check the number of teeth on your flywheel, remove the starter and count the flywheel teeth. Chevrolet/GM changed the starters to 168 teeth flywheels at the same time they changed to 12 volts.
You can also measure the starter pinion gear which maybe easier, the 168 teeth flywheel starter pinion meaures 1" and the 139 tooth flywheel starter pinion meaaures 1 1/8" so a bit larger pinion on the 139 teeth flywheel. FYI both starter pinion gears are 9 teeth, the difference is pitch of the pinion teeth.
